Coalville Police have dealt with two people accused of drug offences at the Belvoir Shopping Centre this afternoon (Monday).

The offenders were initially spotted by North West Leicestershire District Council's CCTV system.

North West Leicestershire Police explained what happened on social media.

The post reads: "This afternoon we had great teamwork with our council CCTV operators, who spotted drug offences within the Belvoir Shopping Centre.

"Officers were deployed and two persons were stopped searched and found to be in possession of drugs.

"The police are currently dealing with the two offenders."

The town team also gave an update on measures being taken to stop shoplifting.

They said: "As part of our beat priority for shoplifting offences, the Coalville Town Beat team have been on foot patrols around the Belvoir Shopping Centre and Whitwick Retail Park.

"We have visited a number of retailers to discuss crime prevention and we are liaising with our local retailers to discuss 'retail packs'.

"These packs aid staff through the crime reporting and evidence gathering stages, resulting in more timely charges.

"If you are a local retailer and would like a visit from the beat team to discuss crime prevention, please pop into our Front Enquiry Office (North West Leicestershire District Council Customer Services, Belvoir Road, Coalville) and we will arrange to visit you."
