Two car collision forces police to close key Coalville route to traffic during busy mid-afternoon period

Coalville Fire Station has released photos of the traffic collision that blocked Stephenson Way yesterday (Thursday).

The incident forced the route to be closed to traffic during the afternoon for almost two hours from 3pm.

It meant motorists having to follow diversions at during the busy mid-afternoon period.

Leicestershire Police said on social media: "Following a road traffic collision, Stephenson Way, Coalville is closed between the Ashby Road roundabout and the McDonalds roundabout, including access to the Telford Way Industrial Estate."

Photos from Coalville fire fighters later showed that two cars had collided - and that crews from Loughborough and Shepshed had attended.

A Leicestershire Fire and Rescue post said: "We have just attended a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on Stephenson Way Coalville with Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Loughborough Station & Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Shepshed Station

"With summer around the corner.. here are a couple of tips when driving in bright sunshine

"Keep your windscreen clean, inside and out. Dust and grime on the windscreen can make the effects of sunstrike much worse.

"Leave a greater distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you when driving in bright sunlight. Bright light greatly reduces your visibility and reaction time.

"Wear sunglasses when driving with the sun in your eyes.

"Use your car's sun visors to block the sun. Please drive safely."
