Bright Hope House – the new home of charity Hospice Hope – is starting to take shape with the laying of foundations and first bricks.

Representatives from the charity joined the North West Leicestershire District Council Chairman and Chief Executive recently to mark the laying of the foundations and first bricks, at the site in Swannington.

The District Council has provided land to Hospice Hope so it can create a bespoke facility and continue its work supporting people with life limiting conditions.

Local house builder Bloor Homes will fund the building work at no cost to the charity.

In 2019, Hospice Hope learned that it would have to move out of its current accommodation in Griffydam.

The council agreed to lease some of its land, which was previously used to store spare wheelie bins, to the charity for a peppercorn rent.

Building has now started on the bespoke 6,000 sq ft facility.

Allison Thomas, Chief Executive of North West Leicestershire District Council, said: "It was a great honour to lay one of the first bricks in this very special building.

"The charity means so much to the local community with all the work they do for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

"It's exciting to see the building starting to take shape in a great example of what can be achieved when private, public and voluntary organisations work together."

Stewart Shepherd, Chair of Hospice Hope added: "To actually see the building taking shape is so exciting.

"It will enable Hospice Hope to increase and develop its invaluable services to our community.

"Everyone at the charity is so grateful to NWLDC and Bloor Home and look forward to a thrilling future."

Hospice Hope provides day care, counselling, befriending and complementary therapy for people with life limiting conditions, allowing carers to take a well-earned break.

Similar services are offered at their three Support Cafes in Ashby, Whitwick and Ibstock.

The charity is supported by a dedicated team of more than 50 active and experienced volunteers, who are there to listen and support.
