Two arrested after morning drugs raid by police at premises in Coalville town centre

Two men were arrested in Coalville this morning (Monday) as part of a police raid on a town centre cannabis grow.

Leicestershire Police say the disused premises in High Street was being used to cultivate the plants by the suspects.

Once the men were taken into custody, police dismantled the drug-producing operation.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Coalville Nub News: "Two men have been arrested after a number of cannabis plants were recovered from a disused premises in High Street, Coalville, this morning (Monday 5 August).

"The men, who were arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis, remain in custody.

"Officers are in the process of recovering all of the plants and equipment and enquiries into the incident remain ongoing."

Posts on the Spotted in Coalville Facebook page suggest that the Belvoir Shopping Centre was blocked by police who also had a presence in London Road.

North West Leicestershire Police later added details on social media and posted: "Officers from Coalville police station responded to an eagle-eyed CCTV colleague from the council who spotted two individuals acting suspiciously near a local premises.

"Upon further investigation, officers have come across a substantial cannabis grow. Two adults arrested, Cannabis plants seized. Growing equipment taken to be destroyed."
