Coalville Belvoir Rotary Club celebrated its 90th birthday with guest speaker and TV personality Charles Hanson.
The well-known auctioneer gave an interesting talk about the world of antiques and TV when he spoke at the at Lingdale Golf Club event last month.
He then auctioned some tickets to a Charity Auction Evening, raising money to kick start the club's Santa collection.
This year was a 'special' birthday for the club, marking 90 years of Rotary in Coalville.
As well as members of Coalville Belvoir Rotary Club, the guests included the High Sheriff of Leicestershire and her husband, Rotarians, Lions, charities, volunteers, friends and family.
District Governor Elect, Chris Knight, raised a toast to the club, and thanked members for "recognising a need to move with the times, adapting and changing to suit the situation. Here's to the next 90 years."
President Simon Guile spoke about friends and family, thanking guests for attending the evening and for the support they give to the club.
The evening ended with a disco, giving members and guests a chance to let their hair down and dance the night away.
It has been a busy time for the club. Local Primary Schools, Warren Hills and Griffydam, recently held Walk-a-Mile events, raising awareness of Rotary's End Polio Now campaign.
Both events were a success, raising funds for the campaign. World Polio Day, on October 24, celebrates the progress made in the fight against polio.
Polio mainly affects children under the age of five.
There is no cure but it is preventable with a vaccine.
With support from donors, Rotary and partners, cases have been reduced by 99.9 per cent since 1988 and over 400 million children every year are immunised against polio.
Plans for the club's annual Santa collections are well advanced.
Last year, £3,000 was raised for local charities - and this year, the charities will be LAMP, Love4Life and Brown Dog, each providing much needed care and support for the local community.
To arrange Santa's visits, the club says it needs help from volunteers and new helpers are always welcome.
