Thringstone is to be gifted £1,000 worth of community grants which will go to groups who want to do something to help the local community.

The Charles Booth Centre, alongside what used to be the Grace Dieu Parents' Association.

The school, which closed last year, had a kitty which was used to buy things for those involved.

Tom Walters, Business Development Manager at the Charles Booth Centre, told Coalville Nub News: "I had a chat with one of the mums who was a member of the Parents' Association.

"What we agreed was

"We spoke about how we could do things for the community, and what we've agreed is that, effectively, the grant will be funded by them.

"The reason being we've had very little income during the pandemic.

"But going forwards, we will pick it up, until then, in years one and two, the funding is coming from the Parents' Association, as was."

Tom outlined how it would work - with the money being split into four lots of £250.

He added: "What we want to do is set up a few small funds for our community.

"To help make our village a better place for all of us.

"One is designed for younger children, primary or nursery.

"It doesn't have to be a school. Another is to aimed at older kids going to secondary school or university.

"Charles Booth was a great social and economic reformer, study was very important to him.

"If we can help towards the cost of text books or a laptop, that would be a lovely thing to do.

"The third one would be promote the history and art of the village, so if someone had a project in mind, then if we can help in a small way with the cost, we will.

"And the fourth one is the most generic, which is to make the village a nice place, maybe painting a couple of benches or supplying litter picking equipment. Something to make the area a nicer place to live in.

"Of course, we will make sure the applicants can supply follow ups as to how the money has been spent. But you don't have to be organisations, we will take applications from anyone who has a project.

"I feel very strongly that the community centre should be helping the community. We want to keep moving forwards out of lockdown."

An application form can be downloaded from the Charles Booth Centre website HERE.
