Coalville residents are being consulted on improvements that can be made along Ashby Road now that the traffic calming measures have been removed.

County councillor for Coalville, Dr Terri Eynon, says Leicestershire Highways are inviting comments.

She also highlights problems with HGVs gaining access to businesses opposite the new Snibston Colliery Park - and the fact that the widening of Ashby Road will allow some drivers to 'put their foot down'.

In a Facebook post, Cllr Eynon says: "Like them or loathe them, the chicanes on Ashby Road have now been removed to enable a new entrance to Snibston Colliery Park Calming measures to be removed on Ashby Road.

"But the build-outs at the new Snibston entrance have been causing trouble for some HGVs turning into the businesses opposite.

"The removal of the chicanes also widens the road further up making it easier for less responsible drivers to put their foot down.

Improvements designed to encourage more people into Coalville

"Better late than never, Highways are consulting on a final tweak to the new arrangements.

"You are being invited to comment on proposals to put double yellow lines down to protect the access to the businesses opposite the new Snibston entrance and ensure the full width of the road is available for turning vehicles.

Snibston Colliery Park has officially reopened

"With many homes along Ashby Road having no off-street parking, I am pleased to report that some of the existing yellow lines further up are going to be removed.

"This will allow more people to park near their homes and should make the road less attractive to speedsters.

"A copy of the proposed Order, together with a plan illustrating the proposals and an explanatory statement giving the Council's reasons for proposing to make the Order can be viewed online HERE."
