A Leicester charity that supports homeless people has received a donation of £5,000 from the Amazon fulfilment centre team in Coalville.

The donation was made after a member of the Amazon team nominated One Roof to benefit from a special COVID-19 initiative as part of the online giant's programme to support the communities around its operating locations across the UK.

One Roof plans to use the donation to improve access to temporary and long-term accommodation, and provide services and advice to help reduce the number of rough sleepers on the streets.

General Manager at Amazon in Coalville, Martin Cox said: "We're proud to support organisations that are making a real difference in our community like One Roof.

"Its staff and volunteers have been a great support to people in Leicester during COVID-19 and we want to lend a helping hand with this donation."

Kal Doshi, who nominated One Roof, said: "Let's Feed Brum is a charity close to my heart and I am pleased that it has been chosen to receive this donation from Amazon.

"I hope that it gives the volunteers a boost during what continues to be a challenging year."

Salma Ravat, manager of One Roof said: "Like all charities, our services have never been needed more than they are now.

"Amazon's support is hugely appreciated and will enable us to continue to reach and help people in the community by improving access to services.

"Thank you to Martin and the team in Coalville for this donation."

Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19.
