Three fire crews were called to a fire in a detached garage in Coalville today (Wednesday).

The accidental blaze was in Summerfield Road and is thought to have been caused by hot embers in chimnea that was being stored in the garage.

Two crews from Coalville and one from Shepshed attended the fire after the alarm was raised just before mid-day.

Although a large amount of smoke was produced by the fire, there were no casualties reported as a result.

Firefighters needed breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze and a damping down operation followed with a further inspection planned later.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service gave details of the incident on its website.

A spokesperson said: "Call was received by Fire Control to a garage fire. The garage was detached from the property and fire appliances were mobilised.

"Crews confirmed a large amount of smoke was issuing from the double garage on arrival.

"There were no casualties involved. A small amount of rubbish and cardboard was involved in fire.

'The fire was extinguished using a hose reel jet and two crew members wearing breathing apparatus under rapid deployment.

"Updated Incident Information: Damping down and cutting away of roof timbers has taken place. Electricity supply has been isolated to garage. Crews will re-inspect later today."
