Some students at Coalville's Stephenson College have been told to self-isolate after a confirmed case of coronavirus.

The SMB Group – comprising Stephenson College and Brooksby Melton College – sent out a letter with the advice to an unknown number of students at both campuses earlier this week.

Katherine Coleman, the group's head of health, safety and environment, writes: "We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the SMB Group affecting Stephenson campus and Melton campus.

"We have followed the national guidance and have identified that you have been in close contact with the affected person.

"In line with the national guidance we recommend that you now stay at home and self-isolate until September 22, returning to college on 23 September and do not come to college, although you can continue your studies from home.

"We are asking you to do this to reduce the further spread of Covid-19 to others in the community.

"If you are well at the end of the 14 days period of self-isolation, then you can return to usual activities.

"Other members of your household can continue normal activities provided you do not develop symptoms within the 14 day self-isolation period."
