North West Leicestershire District Council offices and Coalville Police Station were closed to the public on Monday due to the high winds brought in by Storm Franklin

The council offices in London Road reported damage to the roof with falling tiles posing a danger.

North West Leicestershire Police and the district council posted a message on social media saying the buildings would not be open.

The police station have advised people to travel to Loughborough or Leicester instead if they wanted to speak to an officer in person.

A spokesperson for the district council said: "We've had to close the council offices and the car park today due to the strong winds causing tiles to fall from the roof.

"We're concerned that further tiles may fall so, once the weather has settled and it's safe to do so, we'll look to secure the roof as soon as we can.

"Please find alternative parking and re-arrange all visits for another day.

"The strong winds also mean that it's unsafe for our toilet attendant to be out in this weather so we'll be closing Coalville toilets for today."

Coalville Police posted: "It's a bit windy outside today and. as a result, North West Leicestershire District Council has taken the decision to close the site due to flying roof tiles and damage to the building.

"As a result, our front enquiry desk is also closed.

"Your closest alternatives are Loughborough Police Station or Beaumont Leys Police Station.

"Stay safe out there and only travel if necessary."
