A recently refurbished GP practice in Ibstock was officially opened at the weekend by a local celebrity duo.

The revamped Ibstock Surgery was unveiled on Sunday, and the ribbon was cut by actor couple Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters, who both live in the area.

The actors have each featured in an array of popular films and TV shows including Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Irishman, This is England, Peaky Blinders and Time.

They moved to Leicestershire from the Beckenham area of London.

More than 200 people attended the event, many of whom got to tour the improved surgery in High Street.

Fundraising also took place for speciality surgery equipment, with almost £400 being raised via a tombola.

The renovation work has been years in the making, according to Dr Fatima Houghton, a GP partner at the practice, who said the event was a "joyous occasion for all".

The building has been remodelled and extended and has also been nominated for an architecture prize, Dr Houghton said.

Speaking before the event, she said: "Before the work, the building was extremely old and dated. We delayed redecorating it as we knew we would be extending.

"We are a real community practice, with four partners, four salaried GPs, three nurses, three health care assistants, two pharmacists.

"We are a close team and are really happy we have the capacity in terms of rooms simply because we used to not be able to fit everyone in.

"The patients have praised it highly and have been brilliant throughout this process."

The project has been financed through a mixture of funding from developers who have built large housing estates in the area and a large business loan taken by the GP partners who run the practice. The expected cost currently sits at around £780,000.

A spokesperson for Ibstock & Barlestone Surgeries told Coalville Nub News: "The day was a great success with lots of positive comments about our newly extended and refurbished surgery from patients and visitors.

"We raised £380 through a tombola towards equipment for patients which isn't provided by the NHS."
