The annual Christmas in Coalville celebration returns to the town later this month for what is described as 'a festive extravaganza' - with the heart of the activities hosted at the newly refurbished Marlborough Square.

Christmas in Coalville - on Saturday 23 November from 10am to 5pm - has gone globe-al this year.

By popular demand, the Living Snow Globe - last seen in from 2022 - will return this year after the entertaining performances in the past.

Capture memories inside the Photo Snow Globe - which is new for 2024 - and create your own take-home snow globe craft at Marlborough Square.

Taking place across Marlborough Square, Belvoir Shopping Centre, and Needham's Walk car park, this community event promises a day filled with holiday cheer, family-friendly entertainment and unforgettable seasonal activities.

The main stage in Marlborough Square - which was officially re-opened in August after a £2.8million refurbishment - will host a line-up of live performances.

They include popular local band Whiskey Chasers, community choir groups like Singing for the Soul Choir and Coalville Christ Church Community Choir, as well as Thornley Dance Academy and Century Theatre Academy

A special appearance by the National Elf Service will be interacting with everyone and keeping the whole family entertained.

The day's events will be rounded off by a breathtaking fire show and snow cannon finale.

Santa, courtesy of the Coalville Belvoir Rotary Club, will make a special appearance in Marlborough Square, making Christmas wishes come true.

A funfair in Needham's Walk car park, a children's funfair in Belvoir Shopping Centre, and various street performances, such as stilt walkers, will keep the holiday spirits high.

Over 25 festive stalls will be scattered throughout Belvoir Shopping Centre and Marlborough Square, featuring handmade gifts, holiday treats, and crafts by local artisans.

Belvoir Shopping Centre will host the satellite stage where there will be performances by local schools Belvoirdale, St. Clare's RC, and Whitwick St John the Baptist CE Primary School.

Parts of the event have been sponsored by award-winning leisure operator Everyone Active - who run Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre and Ashby Leisure Centre and Lido - to provide added entertainment for people to enjoy.

The event will be delivered by North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC).

Due to past years' success, the following competitions have returned this year:

  • Best Dressed Window Competition – local businesses will compete for the best festive display, with awards selected by both the public and the Chairman.
  • Coalville Illuminations – a chance for businesses to showcase their Christmas lights and bring Coalville's streets to life.
  • Elf Trail – a family-friendly scavenger hunt around town for children, with special prizes to be won.

Councillor Tony Gillard, Portfolio Holder for Business at NWLDC, said: "Christmas in Coalville is one of the highlights of our year, bringing together families, friends, and visitors to celebrate our wonderful community.

"We have our main stage highlighting the talented young performers in our area and brings the community together for a day of festive joy.

"I look forward to seeing Marlborough Square and Coalville's streets come alive with the magic of the season, and I warmly invite everyone to join us for an unforgettable day."

Duncan Gibb, Everyone Active's contract manager, said: "We are delighted to be sponsoring this fantastic event, which is set to attract people of all ages.

"Everyone Active's focus is on serving the local community, both inside and outside our centres, and we hope everyone who attends has a brilliant day."
