North West Leicestershire District Council says the detection of incidents by CCTV has gone up almost 50 per cent in the last year.

The council explained it has worked in partnership with N Security to improve security within the Coalville and Ashby area.

Cllr Michael Wyatt, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: "We have seen the service assist with a number of arrests, including the high-profile incident last Monday in Coalville, when a cannabis factory was discovered.

"Improvements to processes, camera quality and staff training has resulted in the number of incidents spotted by our eagle-eyed CCTV operatives continuing to rise.

"In July we witnessed 328 incidents which is an increase of 48.42 per cent from last July's 221 incidents."

"Footage from 28 incidents was requested by the police."

"During July, we had five arrest incidents, resulting in eight people being arrested."
