North West Leicestershire District Council says dog walkers who fail to clear up their pet's mess will be hit with a £100 on the spot fine.

The council has posted the warning as a result of evidence of dog fouling in Coalville Park and surrounding areas.

It says officers will be patrolling the areas to make sure people are sticking to the rules regarding leaving dog excrement behind on the field.

An NWLDC social media post reads: "We've received reports of dog fouling at Coalville Park and in the field behind.

"Enforcement officers are patrolling these areas.

"Anyone found not picking up after their dog, or not having bags available when asked, will be given an on-the-spot fixed penalty notice of £100.

"It's also an offence under our Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to allow dogs into enclosed children's play areas or designated sports areas.

"Dog owners - please act responsibly and keep an eye on what your dog is doing. Bag it and bin it!"
