Police have discovered a cannabis factory in Whitwick with more than 400 plants with a value of £250,000.

Officers raided the property following concerns from residents in the local community.

Leicestershire Police have not provided any more details about the exact address where the plants were found.

But they have emphasised that the production of cannabis privately is not a 'harmless crime'.

North West Leicestershire Police said: "Beat team officers, along with the neighbourhood proactive team, executed a search warrant at an address in Whitwick.

"The local community raised concerns to police about this address that cannabis was being grown inside.

"Inside the address were 429 cannabis plants with a street value of £250,000.

"People think this is a harmless crime, but the profits from such cannabis factories fund terrorism and other criminality.

"Please report if you have any concerns in your community."
