Police were called in to apprehend a pig on the run in Whitwick on Thursday.

An officer from North West Leicestershire's Rural Crime Team - along with two from Loughborough - were called into action to ensure the animal was captured after it held up traffic in the Coalville village.

But they managed. to see the funny side as the pig roamed free.

A post on the North West Leicestershire Safer Neighbourhood Team's Facebook page shared a photo of the pig and said: "This evening, this not so little piggy decided to venture around Whitwick.

"Thankfully PS Wilson and PC Kay from Loughborough Response and PC Holmes from our Rural Crime team managed to secure and safely return him home with the help of his owners.

"Thank you to all road users who stopped for us, but we did notice you all having a laugh at our expense."
