North West Leicestershire Police set up knife arches outside two Coalville pubs last night as part of their Neighbourhood Policing Week.

It follows similar use of the arches - an airport style metal detector used to pinpoint anyone carrying a knife - across the county.

Arches were also used in Ashby last year as part of Leicestershire Police's #knivesnotlives campaign.

Police say that use of the arches helps ensure the safety of those using the pubs - and the wider community.

Last night, the arches were set up at The Engineers Arms and the Snibstone New Inn.

A social media post from North West Leicestershire Police reads: "Continuing with our Neighbourhood Policing Week, officers have been out in Coalville utilising the knife arch.

"Working in partnership with The Engineers Arms and the Snibstone New Inn, staff ensured that anybody entering the two venues were passed through the metal detector first.

"Both sites denied entry to those that refused to walk through the knife arch.

"This increases the safety of our community."
