Leicestershire Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward following a serious collision on the M1 yesterday morning (Sunday) near the junction for Coalville.

Shortly before 10.45am, a report was received that a black Ford Mondeo had left the northbound carriageway and collided with a tree between junction 21a and junction 22.

The occupants – a driver and a passenger – were taken to hospital for treatment.

The passenger – a woman – has since died.

The driver's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The passenger, in her 30s, died as a result of her injuries yesterday evening (Sunday).

The driver remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Detective Constable Charlotte Wright, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: "Sadly our enquiries are now centred around a fatal collision.

"While we have spoken to a number of people, I would still ask that anyone who was travelling on the motorway yesterday morning and saw what happened or who has dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.

"I would also like to speak to anyone who saw the black Ford Mondeo prior to the collision occurring."
