Police were called out to the main roads around Coalville after reports of vehicles 'Street Racing'.

A social media post last night (Tuesday) reads: "We are aware of street racing taking place on both the A50/A511 and the A512 at the moment and Police Officers will be attending.

"We thank the public for informing us, but further calls regarding these matters are not required at this time."

There were similar activities along the A512 in Loughborough at the same time.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Coalville Nub News: "Police were called a number of times from 9.30pm onwards last night (Tuesday) to reports of cars congregating on the A511 in Coalville and the A512 in Loughborough.

"There were also reports that a number of cars were racing.

"Police officers attended.

"No arrests were made."

A number of comments on the Leicestershire Police Facebook page suggested this is becoming a serious problem for residents.

Many pointed out the safety aspects of using the carriageway for racing - with HGVs using the route during the night.

One said: "I live in Swannington and the speed at which some drivers go through the village is scary.

"Sooner or later there will be a serious crash of fatality."
