Plans Submitted For Children's Care Home In Thringstone
A plan to convert an address in Thringstone to a children's care home have been submitted to North West Leicestershire District Council.
Amir Abbas, of Burton on Trent, has made an application for a change of use at 75 Main Street.
The accompanying planning statement explains the plans for the site which are designed for up to six people living together and receiving care - for example - supported housing schemes such as those for people with learning disabilities or mental health problems.
It also says that between eight and 10 jobs could be created by the care home.
The statement says: "The children in care would be would be 7-17 years old and those who have: behavioural and emotional development challenges; suffered physical and sexual abuse; been neglected; a learning disability.
"We plan to have four children living in the children's care home. The children will be supervised by staff in the home.
"The proposed home would operate as a family dwelling, considering that during the day children would be attending local education whilst support staff maintain the upkeep of the property.
"The care provided would be 24 hour care, which will involve a maximum of four staff being on duty between the hours of 7am to 11pm (shifts being from 7am to 3pm, 3pm to 11pm and a long shift from 7am to 11pm).
"There will then be a maximum of two staff on duty overnight undertaking a sleep in shift from 11pm to 7am. These two staff would be sleeping overnight from 11pm to 7am.
"No staff would be living in the premises as the staff rota will operate on a shift basis.
"There is sufficient off street parking for staff as the children receiving care will not have access to their own cars.
"The home will be inspected on a regular basis by Ofsted. We currently meet all fire and health & safety regulations in relation to the running of a care home.
"The property will also be safe and secure with CCTV cameras installed around the building.
"Benefits to the local community, we believe that as a new employer we will provide opportunities for a number of residents to gain employment.
"At present this is estimated at between 8-10 permanent members of staff along with bank staff.
"This would provide stability for staff along with significant investment and training opportunities.
"Children placed in the home would be able to maintain their education and training provision, which is so important for the continuity and stability of their futures.
"Along with this, they will be able to maintain contact with significant family members, where appropriate.
"Maintaining young people in their local area also enables us to build partnerships with other local support services.
"This provides a holistic approach to the support and care for the children.
"We feel that we have approached this project with the correct level of diligence.
"The area where the home is located has plenty of local amenities and is a well established neighbourhood.
"Overall, we believe that this will have a very positive impact on the local community."
