A petition has been launched aimed at improving bus services in Ibstock.

Local resident Steven Christian-Parker says routes through the town should be re-considered - as well as putting on a Sunday service.

A change.org petition is now online, and readers are invited to sign it.

The page says: "Summer is fast approaching and people are going to want to venture out on days out, etc. Not everyone is fortunate enough to own a car or a driving licence for that matter. People rely on public transport.

"Due to the unique position where Ibstock is situated, the nearest train stations are Loughborough or Tamworth.

"So, what is the answer? Bus. The bus links outside Ibstock are good with links all over North West Leicestershire, it's just the buses between Ibstock and Coalvile are not the best most of the time, but they are none existent of a Sunday.

"Residents of Ibstock have already witnessed the buses being rerouted away from the High Street, meaning that the elderly have got quite a walk to get to the High Street. This also meant that once again the local shops potentially had less footfall. Whereas the local big name supermarket was thriving, because it's right on the bus route and it is in more of a centralised location in the village.

"I have made this petition to ask the ones in charge, whether it will be Arriva or the council themselves to reconsider the bus route in Ibstock, and also to make arrangements for a Sunday service bus, please!

"If doing this will boost business for the High Street in Ibstock and businesses surrounding, remains to be seen. However I feel that it will definitely help businesses in Coalville, Ashby and other areas."
