An online petition has been set up in an attempt to stop Buddies Bar in Coalville from being closed down.

Coalville Nub News reported yesterday (Wednesday) that the venue, at the entrance to the Belvoir Shopping Centre, is to close to make way for a new North West Leicestershire District Council.

The bar says this will result in five people losing their jobs, as well as costing the owner his life savings.

Gylo, who own the precinct, says it is prepared to relocate Buddies to a new site.

But that has not convinced the bar owner who says he needs to be out of the unit in four weeks,

An online site has since been set up, by Sara Billington, with a message that reads: "Buddies bar in Coalville has been served a notice to quit so North West Leicestershire District Council can utilise the building for a customers service centre.

"We, the undersigned, call upon the precinct owners and the district council to reverse the decision

"The notice to quit will lead to a new thriving business in Coalville having to close and put five members of staff out of a job.

"The owner will also be losing his life savings if this decision is carried out."

You can sign the petition HERE.
