A Coalville bar has been promised it will be relocated after being told it must leave its current site to make way for new council offices.

Buddies Bar is situated on Belvoir Road at the entrance to the Belvoir Shopping Centre is now owned and run by the Gylo Trust.

But an online post this week on the bar's Facebook page said it had been told it must leave - and is being 'chucked out' - as the unit will form part of North West Leicestershire District Council's new offices which will house its customer services team.

The move by the council was first reported by Coalville Nub News last June HERE.

The Buddies Bar post reads: 'It is with regret that we have to publish this.

"Buddies has been served notice on our lease.

"We have enjoyed building this independent business in a depressed Coalville Town centre recovering from the pandemic.

"We had great plans for the community including our additional-needs discos, afternoon teas for the local care homes and support of the local charity friends for impact.

"We are up to date on all our bills rent, rates, beer and wages .

"So why has this happened?

"North West Leicestershire District Council claims it is supporters of local businesses.

"As do the owners of the Precinct. Well not this one.

"We have been chucked out regardless to make way for the council's new offices.

"We have four weeks to run so keep an eye on what we are doing in our last four weeks of trading.

"We have loved meeting you all and watching you enjoy buddies."

But a spokesperson for the Gylo Trust has told Coalville Nub News that talks are ongoing about finding a new site for the bar.

The Trust said: "We've been working with Buddies Bar since the end of last year and shown our support to help grow this new business through favourable financial measures.

"We are committed to helping them find a viable future and are in discussions about a potential relocation."

North West Leicestershire District Council has also responded to the bar's comments.

Andy Barton, Strategic Director at the council, said: "As part of our accommodation plans, we're looking to move our customer services team to the heart of Coalville, closer to our customers.

"We've been working with the Belvoir Shopping Centre to find the most suitable place to do this.

"We aren't part of discussions between the shopping centre owners and their tenants, including Buddies Bar, but will offer support to businesses where we can.

"We don't like to see businesses leave the area, so if the owners of the bar would like our help with licensing or finding alternative accommodation, our door is open."
