Overturned lorry causes major traffic delays around Hugglescote, Bardon and Coalville

A lorry overturned on Bardon Road this morning (Friday) - causing severe traffic delays in the area.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service posted photos of the stricken vehicle on social media.

The Service also included a warning to drivers as cold temperatures, icy conditions and freezing fog caused problems for motorists.

The vehicle was on its side with icy conditions adding to difficulties

It said: "We have just attended an incident involving an overturned lorry on Bardon Road.

"Drive safe in icy conditions!

"Slow down, keep your distance, and stay alert to keep yourself and others safe on the roads."

Leicestershire Police also gave details of the incident and posted: "Due to an overturned lorry Bardon Road (A511), Coalville - including the roundabout with Grange Road and Regs Way - are all currently closed. Please find alternative routes."

But the police later posted that the road had now re-opened, adding: "The following are now open, Bardon Road (A511) Coalville - including the roundabout with Grange Road and Regs Way."

Hugglescote Surgery also reported that the incident was having a knock-on effect for them.

The Surgery posted on social media and said: "Staff will be finding alternative routes into the surgery but please be aware there may be delays."

Social media users said that traffic was 'at a standstill' around the Hugglescote and Coalville area.
