The site of the former NatWest bank in Coalville is to be converted into a convenience store.

The ground floor of what was previously the Belvoir Road branch has been vacant for several years.

However, a planning application has now been approved by North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) to convert it into a convenience store.

Council officers said bringing the empty areas of the building back into use would "support the viability of the town centre".

The upper floors of the property were converted into flats several years ago.

To minimise disturbance for their residents, NWLDC has imposed conditions on the store, limiting the opening hours to between 6am and 11pm on Mondays through to Saturdays, and between 8am and 8pm on Sundays.

Deliveries will also be restricted so they cannot take place before 7.30am on weekdays or before 9am on weekends or bank holidays.

Ultimately, no objections were raised to the plan by either council officers or members of the public.
