One person had to be freed by fire crews after two-vehicle collision at busy Whitwick junction

One person was trapped in their vehicle after a traffic collision in Whitwick yesterday (Tuesday).

The incident occurred at the junction of Talbot Street and Dumps Road, Whitwick at around 9am.

Leicestershire Police reported that two vehicles were involved in the collision and that someone was trapped as a result, while two fire crews from Coalville attended.

It was the police who called for fire assistance, but East Midlands Ambulance Service raised the initial alarm.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Upon arrival, the incident was confirmed as a Road Traffic Collision.

"Two vehicles were involved, with one person trapped. 

"The Fire Service formulated a plan to extricate casualty, making vehicles safe and assisting East Midlands Ambulance Service with casualty care."

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Coalville Nub News: "Police attended – along with ambulance and fire service.

"We were made aware of the two-car collision at 9.13am by the ambulance service."
