North West Leicestershire's Conservative election candidate Craig Smith has welcomed the the Department of Education's tough new stance on teaching young children about sex

He says that, as a parent and as someone who deeply cares about the education and well-being of children, he agrees with the sentiments expressed by education Minister Gillian Keegan.

He said: "It's crucial that our schools provide a safe and appropriate learning environment, free from controversial or age-inappropriate materials.

"Teaching children about important topics is essential, but it must be done in a responsible and fact-based manner.

"Children deserve the chance to be children, to learn and grow at a pace that suits them best. That's why I fully support the introduction of age limits for RSHE lessons.

"Moreover, parents absolutely have the right to know what their children are being taught in school.

"Transparency and open communication between schools and families are vital for building trust and ensuring that children receive the education they deserve.

"I applaud the Education Secretary for taking action to address these concerns and provide much-needed clarity to teachers and parents alike. Together, we can ensure that our children are educated in a safe and supportive environment, where they can thrive and reach their full potential."
