The North West Leicestershire vaccination hub at Measham Leisure Centre has been told it is the 'most efficient and best organised in the county'.

Now Measham Medical Unit has announced the next steps in what it says has been a highly successful vaccine rollout.

But it says it will NOT be handling the vaccinations for those aged over 56 - the next group to be invited.

Those will be held at national centres only for now.

However, Measham is catering for those in the Cohort 6 to 7 group (see below).

The centre has issued a social media post in which it says the West Leicestershire Clinical Commissing Group has singled out for praise.

The Hub's post reads: "The Covid vaccine rollout has been a huge success and the feedback from patients who have received their vaccinations at our local hub at Measham leisure centre has been extremely positive.

"We have also received feedback from the CCG advising that this hub is the most efficient and best organised in Leicestershire and the team of clinicians, administrators and volunteers feel very proud to have been able to offer this fantastic service to our local community.

"We will have soon finished vaccinating patients in cohort 6 (people aged 16 to 64 with serious underlying health conditions, those with learning disabilities and registered carers) and will then move to inviting people in cohort 7 (aged 60-64).

"You may receive a telephone call from the practice or receive a text inviting you to book an online appointment for the hub. We will be also receiving a practice delivery of the Astrazeneca vaccine and will be able to hold clinics within our own surgery too.

"Please don't ring or email the practice to contact us about this as we are being inundated with enquiries.

"The government has announced that people aged 56 and over will be soon receiving a letter inviting them to book for a vaccination.

"Currently these will be only offered at the National hubs (Measham will not be on the list of options) and you are welcome to take up this offer or alternatively wait for the practice to contact you.

"Please remember you will also need to return to the same centre for your booster.

"We are due to start recalling people for their 12 week boosters from early April.

"Please do not ring or email the surgery to enquire about this unless it has been longer than 12 weeks since your first dose as we will be contacting everyone in turn once we have confirmation of our booster-vaccine delivery.

"Cases of Covid-19 in North West Leicestershire remain are one of the highest in the whole of the UK.

"Please continue to take all recommended precautions even when you have been vaccinated."
