North West Leicestershire proclaims King Charles III as the new monarch at Coalville ceremony
A moment of history took place outside the Stenson House council office in Coalville yesterday (Sunday).
At 2pm, the Chairman of North West Leicestershire District Council, Russell Boam, Colonel Murray Colville and Alison Smith MBE were joined by local dignitaries and the public, to proclaim King Charles III as the new sovereign.
The short ceremony was followed by the lowering of the flag to half-mast, by members of the Royal British Legion.
The council's Union Flags were raised to masthead at the Council Offices, on the Memorial Clock Tower and in Coalville Park to mark the official Proclamation of the new sovereign, King Charles III.
You can watch a video of the ceremony below.
The flag was lowered to half-mast following all proclamations until after Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's funeral which takes place next Monday.
Members of the public were also invited to sign the book of condolence.
The book is available between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday at the council offices, and floral tributes can be laid in the official garden of remembrance for the district on the lawns outside.
Additional books and floral tribute locations can be viewed HERE.
