North West Leicestershire is set to have new boundaries for its council wards at the next local elections - scheduled for 2027.

The Local Government Boundary Commission is the independent body that has drawn up the new boundaries.

It has reviewed North West Leicestershire to make sure councillors will represent about the same number of electors, and that ward arrangements will help the council work effectively.

However, it remains to be seen what form the council will take if the Government's devolution plans are put in place.

The Commission has published final recommendations for changes in North West Leicestershire - and says residents should be represented by 39 councillors.

This is one more than the current arrangements.

There are set to be 39 single councillor wards, and most wards - including Ashby and Coalville - will change, says the Commission.

Publishing the recommendations Professor Colin Mellors, Chair of the Commission, said: "We are very grateful to people in North West Leicestershire.

"We looked at all the views they gave us. They helped us improve our earlier proposals. We believe the new arrangements will deliver electoral fairness while maintaining local ties."

There were 92 comments from people and organisations which helped decide the new wards.

Changes in response to what local people said include =transferring the hamlet of Acresford from Appleby ward into Oakthorpe & Donisthorpe ward, based on local evidence received.

The Commission has made further changes to its earlier proposals.

Details can be found on its website HERE.

The changes become law once Parliament has approved them. Staff at the council will ensure that the arrangements are in place for the 2027 elections.
