North West Leicestershire Covid case rates second only to Leicester, latest figures show
Covid case rates in North West Leicestershire are the highest outside of Leicester according to the latest figures released today (Monday) - on the day the four steps out of lockdown were announced.
The seven-day infection rate in the district remains higher than in recent weeks.
After slipping below 200, the rate per 100,000 people is now back up to 239.4 with only Leicester - 256.3 - showing a higher rate.
North West Leicestershire saw 27 new cases in today's figures.
In total, there were new 272 new infections identified – 127 in Leicester and 145 spread across Leicestershire.
Blaby recorded 24 new cases while Charnwood added 35 to its rolling toll.
Harborough added 18 and Hinckley and Bosworth reported 17, with 19 in Oadby and Wigston and just five in Melton.
The new cases, updated today at 4pm, mean that the total number of cases across the city and county since the start of the pandemic area by area are :
- Leicester: 33,303
- Blaby: 6,470
- Charnwood: 11,383
- Harborough: 4,715
- Hinckley and Bosworth: 5,554
- Melton: 2,404
- North West Leicestershire: 5,365
- Oadby and Wigston: 4,631
The latest seven-day infection rates, area by area, are:
- Leicester: 256.3 cases per 100,000 (908 cases in the last seven days)
- Blaby: 179.3 cases per 100,000 (182)
- Charnwood: 200.2 cases per 100,000 (372)
- Harborough: 166.3 cases per 100,000 (156)
- Hinckley and Bosworth: 160 cases per 100,000 (181)
- Melton: 115.2 cases per 100,000 (59)
- North West Leicestershire: 239.4 cases per 100,000 (248)
- Oadby and Wigston: 164.9 cases per 100,000 (94)
