Trees funded by a local company have been planted at the Hillary Crescent play area in Whitwick.

In 2021, Cllr Michael Wyatt secured £3,000 from Bardon Aggregate for a tree survey and planting.

Now, as a result, a number of trees have been planted in the area - and the hope is that there this will be the first of many.

The funds allocated by Bardon, which has still not been spent, means more trees should be forthcoming, which is designed to make a significant difference in the area.

Liberal Democrat councillor Wyatt said: "I put this project forward some years ago, and in 2021 it received some funding.

"I'm delighted to see the Parish Council has started to deliver this project."

District Councillor for Broom Leys, Lee Windram, added: "Michael's project to help make Whitwick cleaner and greener was put forward before I was elected.

"We need to thank Bardon Aggregate for the funding.

"I'm looking forward to seeing more trees planted in the area which will help to improve our local environment."
