A new 170metre link road off Grange Road in Hugglescote has been given the go-ahead by North West Leicestershire District Council.

The road is described as a vehicular, pedestrian and cycle access to form the eastern part of a link between the Lower Bardon site and the South East Coalville consortium site to the west.

The application for the road has been made by Davidsons Development Ltd which has built homes on part of the Grange Road site.

A council officer's report says: "The proposed link road would, in effect, form an eastwards extension of a route already permitted - and under construction - as part of the residential development on the adjacent South East Coalville consortium site phase.

"The link is shown on the approved masterplans for both the consortium and Lower Bardon developments.

"The eastern end of the link would connect to the principal north-south route running through the Lower Bardon site.

"The road would, in total, be approximately 170m in length; approximately 60m is proposed under this reserved matters application.

"The road would incorporate a 6.1m wide carriageway with 3m joint footway / cycleway to one side, and (for the majority of its length) a 1m wide footway to the other.

"The line of the link would cross a dismantled railway used as a recreation route, and just to the north of a "split" in the route, such that it would cross two sections of the former line."
