Iceland's move to the Belvoir Shopping Centre will be part of a £1million investment into a key part of Coalville's main precinct.

Gylo, the owners of the Belvoir Centre have announced that work will start soon on the development, which has also seen Select Fashion which opened its relocated store last week in the unit previously occupied by Burton.

An agreement has been reached with Iceland to open one of its state-of-the-art stores within the Belvoir Centre - but it not likely to open its doors to customers until November.

It will have a sales area of around 6,000 sq. ft and has been created by amalgamating three shop units adjacent to Costa Coffee.

The total investment value will be around £1 million.

One of the relocated tenants will be Pavin Soni of Select Fashions, who said: "We're looking forward to continuing to provide our affordable fashions to Coalville shoppers and our new location will be a must-stop local fashion destination.

"We would like to thank Gylo for their proactive approach and assistance to get our new store up and running so quickly."

For the new Iceland, internal refurbishment works along with the creation of a new shopfront will start shortly, and the new store is expected to open in November - ready for the busy Christmas period.

Nick Harcus of Lathdale, the development consultants for Gylo said: "It's great to keep Select Fashion in Coalville and we're delighted to welcome Iceland into the Belvoir Centre.

"Its nationwide popularity, and consistently high ratings in consumer satisfaction surveys, makes it a great addition to the shopping centre.

"The range and great value offered by Iceland will help people in Coalville and the surrounding area with the current spiralling cost of living."

Simon Anderson, Iceland's Property and Acquisitions Director said: "We are really looking forward to serving customers locally in our new and upgraded store.

"We aim to make shopping as easy as possible and we provide great quality products at the best prices."

The existing Iceland store in Coalville, located on part of the former Co-op site on Bridge Street will be closing.

This site has recently received approval for plans for a new Home Bargains store.

Simon Anderson said: "Existing Iceland staff in Coalville will be offered the opportunity to relocate to the new store plus there will be a local recruitment drive creating a number of new job opportunities.

"We are proud that Iceland is rated as a Top Ten Company to work for and we have worked hard to retain that ranking by investing in and supporting our employees."

James Arnold, Strategic Director at North West Leicestershire District Council said: "We are very pleased to see this new investment in the Belvoir Centre as it is very much in line with our long-term strategy to promote the revitalisation of the heart of Coalville town centre."

Mr Harcus concluded: "Since acquiring the Belvoir Shopping Centre in 2019 and despite the major challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gylo has taken active and positive moves to reverse long years of underinvestment and also bring new vibrancy to the town centre by attracting new footfall.

"This new investment added to the other recent improvements we have made means that we have injected around £2 million into the shopping centre.

"This new store will be a very positive addition and gives us even more confidence that we can bring further quality retail, leisure and hospitality uses to the town. We will continue to work hard to do that."
