Coalville will host the opening of Leicestershire's next set of Crisis Cafes next month.

Crisis Cafes offer local support for people who need immediate help with their mental health.

They are drop-in centres for anyone to come and talk - no appointment is needed.

On Monday, June 6, the first of the new cafes, the Marlene Reid Centre (MRC) Community Action Crisis Cafe, is having its opening event, between 2-4pm, at its base in Coalville.

The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioing Groups (LLR CCGs) and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT), in partnership with Voluntary Action LeicesterShire (VAL) are expanding the number of cafes as they announce the next 11 to open.

Paul Fagan, the centre manager at MRC, explained why his organisation initially bid to run one of the cafes.

He said: "When we heard about the opportunity to host and run a crisis café, we were very keen to run one on behalf of people living in and around Coalville.

"We have a very experienced team here with a vast array of expertise in mental health, mainly working on a non-medical model.

"For example, on a current wellbeing project, we are running sessions that include mindfulness, yoga and even drumming.

"Our launch event promises an entertaining couple of hours with the fabulously funny Rob Gee, mental health nurse turned poet, our community cabaret and lots of music.

"There will also be an opportunity to hear from some of our partners on the project and find out more about our plans for the cafe."

MRC Community Action is a community charity which works in collaboration with individuals, families, groups and organisations to encourage, facilitate, manage and deliver, positive community activity in North West Leicestershire and beyond.

Sam Marandi, Mental Health Commissioning Manager from the LLR CCGs said: "This is an important project for the development of urgent mental health services across our area.

"Once all of these 11 cafes open, we will have 15 up and running across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, with a further 10 in the final phase which will come later this year.

"These extra cafes mean that people who need urgent help can find this help more locally. People can simply drop-in to the cafes, so so there is no need to get in touch with a GP or other service to make an appointment before getting help."

Rosie Klair, Project Lead, Urgent Care & Access Pathway at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, said: "We are so excited for this expansion of the crisis cafés for our local communities.

"We have seen an increase in numbers attending across the city and Loughborough cafés, so to widen the presence further across the city and county will mean that more people can travel less to access this valuable support. The range of new providers will enhance the localised support for the communities they serve."

The grants are being administered on behalf of the NHS by Voluntary Action LeicesterShire (VAL) who will continue to work with the Cafes as they set up and develop.
