A Coalville motorcyclist has been sentenced to three years in prison after colliding with three pedestrians - leaving one 'very seriously injured'.

Shane Price appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Monday (July 31) after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He was also disqualified for three years and six months.

At around 11am on Saturday, August 20, last year, Price was riding a Yamaha XJR1300 along London Road in Coalville towards High Street.

He was witnessed to pull a 'wheelie' and lost control of the bike before colliding with three pedestrians who were walking along the pavement.

One man sustained a broken leg and a dislocated ankle while a second man sustained two broken legs and a broken pelvis. The third pedestrian was not injured.

Price, 30, of Cropston Drive, was taken to hospital and later found to have sustained minor injuries.

He was subsequently interviewed by officers where he claimed he was riding responsibly and that the wheelie was not a deliberate manoeuvre.

Following a full investigation, which included the accounts of a number of witnesses which contradicted what he said, Price was summoned to court.

PC David Handisides, who was the investigating officer, said: "Every witness we interviewed said that Price was riding dangerously before the collision and that the wheelie was a deliberate and intended manoeuvre.

"Many of the witnesses, who hold motorbike licences themselves, commented on the bike accelerating and reeving at the time of the incident and how reckless it was especially given what a busy area of Coalville it is.

"Price's thoughtless actions left two men injured, one of which very seriously.

"He spent almost five weeks in hospital having received reconstructive surgery to his lower body and continues nearly a year on struggle with his mobility.

"While this guilty plea and subsequent sentence does not replace what happened to those affected by this incident, I hope that this conviction serves as a timely reminder to all motorists to drive and ride responsibly at all times."
