Even more homes could be built on the site of a former Ibstock pub already slated to be turned into flats.

A second application for the Boot Inn has been submitted to North West Leicestershire District Council by Luxe Property Ltd which could see a new building constructed in the car park.

This comes after initial proposals were put forward last year by the same company to convert the former pub itself into five apartments and one house.

That application is still pending a decision.

The Gladstone Street pub, which closed in 2021, shot to notoriety during the pandemic after its former landlord repeatedly broke Covid-19 rules by serving customers, and was handed a prohibition notice by officials.

Three punters were even found by Leicestershire Police hiding in the pub's cellar during one of its eight breaches of the regulations and were each fined.

Few details are publicly available about the latest scheme for the site.

However, documents reveal the developer wants to erect a two-storey building on the car park.

It would contain four two-bed flats and three one-beds. Seven additional car parking spaces would also be provided, according to planning documents.

The venue was put on the market in January 2022, but failed to sell, leading to Luxe Property expressing an interest in redeveloping it.

At the time, the developer said "no interest" was shown for The Boot Inn to remain as a pub.

However, the plan for converting the pub into homes drew some concerns from residents in the area near Coalville.

One claimed Gladstone Street was already "hazardous", and that the extra vehicles resulting from the development would add to problems.

Leicestershire County Council, as the local highways authority, said the potential traffic increase would not result in "significant" impacts, however.

A public consultation over the application will run until Friday, August 23.

A decision deadline of Thursday, September 19, has been given by the local authority.
