Coalville is set to mark two Christmas events this year after the re-opening of Marlborough Square.

The new £2.8million area off Belvoir Road was designed with events in mind, and North West Leicestershire District Council has announced the planned programme leading up to the festive season.

Before that, however, Marlborough Square is hosting another Superhero Crafts weekend aimed at children.

The first one took place last weekend - and another is planned for this Saturday and Sunday.

Next month, Marlborough Square is celebrating Halloween with a Pop-up Pumpkin patch event on Wednesday, October 30.

The next night, Howl-O-Ween is planned for the town centre space.

The regular Christmas in Coalville day is going ahead as usual on Satuday, November 23.

This was being held in Marlborough Square before the new development, but now there is a clear space - rather than a car park - to stage it.

But there will also be a Christmas Market in Coalville this year - that is being held on Friday, December 6.

Emily Marquez, Senior Economic Development Officer at North West Leicestershire District Council, described earlier this year what events are being planned.

She said: "There's a lot for people to look forward to - we really want this square to be used.

"We want people to be able to enjoy it and come here for their lunch breaks, but there'll also be a programme of events.
