Markfield woman, 41, is named by police as pedestrian who died in weekend collision

A Markfield woman has been named as the pedestrian who who died after a fatal collision on the A50 has been named by police.

Leicestershire Police say that Samantha (known as Sammy) Dyson – who also used her maiden name Ayton – died following a collision with a car on the southbound carriageway of the A50 Groby Road at around 11pm on Saturday, December 30.

The incident happened outside of the Shell petrol station, close to the roundabout with Gynsill Lane.

Emergency services were called to the scene, but sadly the 41-year-old from was pronounced dead.

Her family have today (Thursday, January 4) released the following tribute: "In loving memory of Sammy.

"Precious and beautiful mum to Stella, Keane and Billy. Beloved daughter of Ken and Miki and stepdaughter of Teresa. Much missed sister of Joanna, Catherine, Jamie, Michael, Francesca, Olivia and Alex. A cherished aunty. 

"We are devastated. We love and miss you and your beautiful smile. You always knew how to make the most out of life and were a light in the dark for all of us. Until we see you again."

The family have also asked for privacy at this very sad and difficult time.

The investigation into the collision is continuing and anyone with information or dash cam footage is asked to report online HERE.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He has since been released under investigation.
