Man had to be freed from vehicle after hitting tree in country lane near Coalville

A man was taken to hospital in Nottingham after a car crashed into a tree in Copt Oak on Saturday morning.

The incident happened shortly after 9am and fire crews from Coalville and Loughborough were called out to assist.

On arrival, they found the man trapped in his vehicle - and he had to be freed while the vehicle was made safe by fire crews and the motorist was treated by East Midlands Ambulance Service.

A report from Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service said: "The casualty was taken to Queen's Medical Centre for assessment and the incident was handed over to the Police."

Leicestershire Police warned drivers of road closures in the area via social media.

They posted: "Road closure - 0932 hrs - Old Horse Lane, due to a police incident Old Horse Road in Markfield is closed, Please avoid this area and updates to follow

"Please be advised of further road closures around this area, Copt Oak Road and Whitwick Road along the B591."
