Local pupils in 6,000-bulb Coalville Park planting day ready for Spring and 125-year celebrations
Green fingered local school children have been making sure a burst of spring colour is guaranteed for Coalville next year.
Pupils from Belvoirdale Primary School, Coalville, and Hugglescote Primary School recently joined a spring bulb planting day with the Friends of Coalville Park and North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC).
The event, sponsored by local businesses RM Health and Safety and Bentley Pole Gardens, saw 6,000 bulbs planted across the park's back field, off of Victoria Road and Whetstone Drive.
The Friends of Coalville Park successfully applied for the bulbs from NWLDC's Green Shoot Grant Scheme to help introduce a new area of planting to the park. The match funding for the scheme was provided by the event sponsors.
Councillor Michael Wyatt, NWLDC Portfolio Holder for Community Services and Climate Change, said: "I can't wait to see the burst of colour added to this part of Coalville Park.
"This project was a fabulous use of our Green Shoot Grant and means that a new area of the open space will bloom in time for the park's 125-year celebrations. Thank you to both schools for taking part."
Kate Insley Chairperson of the Friends of Coalville Park added: "The volunteers of Friends of Coalville Park would like to offer their gratitude to the two local businesses who match funded the bulbs and attended the event with the pupils of the schools.
"We are excited to see the bulbs blooming in the spring and continuing to be involved in the future events and projects at the park."
