Leicestershire County Council has clarified the situation regarding the Snibston Colliery Cafe - and says it will retain ownership of the building.

The council is currently looking for tenants to run the cafe - this is done in-house by them at present.

But it adds that public documentation about the cafe says it is proposed as a lease.

A Leicestershire County Council spokesperson said: "We have created a fantastic new attraction at Snibston for the people of Coalville and the Colliery café has been at the heart of the improvements there.

"As a county park, Snibston's green space was a life-line for many during the pandemic, but it wasn't an easy time for any hospitality venue.

"But now we are coming out of the pandemic, it feels like the right time to offer a fantastic opportunity and allow someone to take on the café and run it as a real community hub and a successful business."

Building work on the £3million Snibston Country Park project began in February, 2020, a month before the first Covid lockdown.

It incorporated a range of developments that reconnected the heritage of the site with the local community.

By opening up access to the area around the colliery buildings visitors can learn more about the story of Coalville.

A number of new features were introduced which included the Colliery Café.
