20th Jul 2020 | Local News

Three new Coronavirus cases have been confirmed in North West Leicestershire today (Monday).

But there have been more than 130 new cases in Leicester and Leicestershire since Friday.

An increase in the number of cases was recorded in the city and every area of the county, when broken down into districts and boroughs.

Leicester's rate has gone up by 91, meaning a total of 4,579 cases have now been confirmed in the city since the start of the pandemic.

Oadby and Wigston cases jumped from 435 to 458, an increase of 23. Every resident in the borough has been contacted by their GP urging them to take a test whether or not they have symptoms, due to the number of cases and the area's infection rate.

The borough and city are still under local lockdown and will be until at least August 1.

The Department for Health and Social Care dashboard only states confirmed cases and rate per 100,000 population, the number of tests carried out or the percentage of positive vs negative results is not included in the daily update.

Figures for the whole of Leicester and Leicestershire show there were 137 positive results in total since Friday afternoon's update.

Charnwood saw another six cases added to its toll and Blaby added three.

Both districts had some areas included in the local lockdown but restrictions were relaxed on Saturday allowing the areas to align with the rest of England.

Harborough recorded five more cases while Hinckley and Bosworth, Melton and North West Leicestershire all saw three new cases confirmed.
