Ibstock residents have been warned to watch out for 'rogue trader' colder callers offering tree felling services.

Leicestershire Trading Standards Service says it has received reports of them in the area.

The service is advising people to take care when dealing with callers such as this.

Trading Standards has issued a message headlined 'Doorstep Scam Alert' and says: "If you are faced with a cold caller offering work on your property, or you are considering any improvement or maintenance work, consider the following advice:

• If you are unsure of who is knocking at your door, do not answer.

• If you do open the door to a cold caller, keep the door chain on and shut the door at any time to end the conversation.

• Never agree to work being carried out immediately - ensure you obtain at least three quotes beforehand in order to make an informed decision.

• Never pay in cash or in full upfront."
