Two people from Ibstock have appeared in court charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act - following an incident during which two police officers were bitten.

Leicestershire Police reports that Shanell Lawrence, 25, of Lewis Close, has been charged with being in charge of a dog, namely a male of the XL Bully type, which was dangerously out of control and being in possession or custody of a dog, to which section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 applied, namely a female dog of the pit bull type.

Aden Hollyoake, 32, of Lewis Close, has been charged with possession or custody of a dog, to which section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 applied, namely a female dog of the pit bull type.

Both appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court yesterday (Wednesday, April 24) and are due to appear at Leicester Crown Court on September 17.

The charges relate to an incident at an address in Lewis Close, Ibstock on Thursday, October 26 last year, when two officers carrying out enquiries at the address were bitten inside the property by an XL Bully dog.

One officer sustained serious bite injuries to his upper leg while the second officer sustained a small laceration to his finger.

A second dog, a pit bull breed, was also found to be inside the address.
