An Ibstock man who sexually abused a woman and two men when they were just children has been convicted of his crimes.

Stuart Newbold was found guilty of a string of offences – committed between 1997 and 2000 – following a trial at Leicester Crown Court.

In 2018, all three victims contacted police to report what had happened to them and an investigation – led by the force's Child Abuse Investigation Unit (CAIU) - began.

They each provided detailed accounts of being sexually abused by Newbold at addresses in the North West Leicestershire area and described how he engaged them in sexual behaviour.

Yesterday (Thurs 24 June) Newbold, of Mary Close in Ibstock, was found guilty of:

  • Four counts of inciting a boy under 14 years of age to commit an act of gross indecency
  • Three counts of indecent assault on a boy under the age of 14 years
  • Two counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 years

Detective Constable Andy Day, from the CAIU non-recent team, was the officer in the case.

He said: "The victims in this case have had to live with what happened to them for more than 20 years.

"In 2018 they found the courage to contact police and report the abuse.

"I hope the outcome of this trial can provide a degree of comfort knowing that Newbold has been brought to justice and they can move on with their lives.

"I hope this case can be an example to any other victims of sexual abuse that it's never too late to come forward and report what happened."

Newbold will be sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on Friday, July 2.

There are a number of different agencies who are able to offer independent help and support to victims of sexual offences in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
