EU citizens living in the Coalville area are being urged to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme before the deadline of Wednesday, June 30.
People in the region are also being encouraged to check that family, friends and neighbours that need to apply have done so – especially those that are elderly or vulnerable.
Those who wish to remain in the UK need to obtain settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme. Without this they may lose the right to live and work in the UK once the deadline is passed.
The Leicestershire and Rutland Local Resilience Forum (LRF) – a collective of local authorities and key partners – are keen to ensure no-one in the region is caught out by not having applied before the rapidly approaching deadline.
The best way to apply is online HERE or to get support with an application, call 0300 123 7379.
North West Leicestershire District Council Chief Executive Bev Smith, said: "The EU Settlement application deadline is nearly upon us and we don't want anyone in the area to be faced with the problems and challenges that will come about if an application hasn't been submitted.
"If you have friends or family that need to apply but haven't, please speak to them about how important it is to get this done before the deadline.
"Our communities do an outstanding job of looking out for each other and this another example of where we can pull together to ensure no-one misses out on submitting their all-important application."
From July 1, EU citizens may be asked to prove their right to do things like get a job or use the NHS. Those with settled or pre-settled status will retain the right to:
- Stay in the UK
- Work
- Study
- Use the NHS
- Rent a home
