Hugglescote & Donington le Heath Parish Council has called an extraordinary meeting week to discuss the proposed sale of the Ashburton Road Recreation Ground.
The Parish Council has received notice of the intention from the Harley Trust to sell the site as an 'Asset of Community Value'.
It says it will be holding an Extraordinary meeting on May 9, at 7.30pm, at the Community Centre.
The council's website says: "North West Leicestershire District Council gives notice that it has received a notification from the owner of an intention to dispose of the Recreation Ground, Ashburton Road, Hugglescote - listed by the District Council as an Asset of Community Value under the Localism Act 2011 following the nomination from Hugglescote Parish Council.
"The District Council invites any eligible community interest group to express an interest to be treated as a potential bidder by no later than 5pm on Friday, May 31."
Coalville councillor, Terri Eynon, posted on social media and said: "Concerned about the future of Ashburton Road playing field?
"There's a special Parish meeting. We all need to work together to save this community asset."
A number of residents have also urged people to attend the meeting in large numbers to make their voices heard.
It is reported that part of the area will be gifted to the Parish Council, with an area close to Donington le Heath to be sold for housing.
The Harley Trust made no comment when approached by Coalville Nub News.
The Parish Council notice adds: "The Owner of the above listed property may not dispose of their asset during a six-week initial period starting from the date the District Council received the notification from the owner.
"During this six-week period, a community group may request in writing to be treated as a potential bidder for the asset.
"This request would then result in a six-month deferral of the disposal. The Owner is not required to accept any bid and once the full moratorium period has expired, may dispose of the asset as they wish until the end of the protected period.
"To be eligible to request being treated as a possible bidder for the asset, a community interest group must have a local connection and have one or more of the following structures:
- A charity
- A community interest company
- A company limited by guarantee that is non-profit distributing
- An industrial and provident society that is non-profit distributing
- A parish council."
It will be the responsibility of any bidder to arrange funding, seek to come to an arrangement with the owner and be responsible for all associated costs. The Council is unable to assist in negotiations or to provide any funding or other assistance.
