Hugglescote housing development installs Tommy Club figures to mark VE Day anniversary
Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes are supporting the Royal British Legion Industries after installing full size Tommy Club figures at their developments in Leicestershire for the 76th Victory in Europe Day last weekend.
Among the developments included is Grange View in Hugglescote.
Barratt Developments was invited to become the Tommy Club's first corporate patron through its relationship with the RBLI.
The housebuilder donated £100,000 as an acceptance gift and has purchased Tommy Club figures from the RBLI to help them raise money.
The Tommy is now a universal symbol of gratitude and commemoration to all those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.
The Tommy Club is a fundraising initiative launched by the RBLI which is a new and exciting way for people to support Armed Forces veterans.
Tommy Club aims to create a new community that will provide the best possible care for the deserving veterans of recent conflicts.
Barratt and David Wilson Homes' developments in the county are now proudly displaying the figures in the show home gardens to pay homage to the soldiers.
The funds raised through Tommy sales have helped to provide jobs, homes, and mental health support throughout the current pandemic.
Those who have lost their jobs, their homes, their families, come to the home of the Tommy, the RBLI, for help.
John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: "We are proud to support the Tommy Club by erecting the figures at our developments in Leicestershire.
"Not only will the funding help to support the fantastic work they are doing, the figures will also encourage our staff and residents to take a moment of reflection for those who served for our freedom."
Tommy Club figures can also be found in the gardens of Barratt Homes North Midlands show homes at the following developments in the county: New Lubbesthorpe and City Heights in Leicester and Wigston Meadows in Wigston.
David Wilson Homes East Midlands is also displaying the Tommy Club figures at Wigston Meadows, New Lubbesthorpe as well as Grange View, in addition to Fleckney Fields in Fleckney, Burnmill Grange in Market Harborough and David Wilson Homes at Kibworth.
